Training Manager - Ames, Iowa

Role:

  • To support the service and sales culture of the Credit Union through the coordination and management of credit union-wide service/sales programs and coaching activities. To assist branch and department managers in achieving their assigned sales, financial and member satisfaction goals. Provides leadership for credit union training initiatives and evaluates overall employee effectiveness and performance through the application of individual and group training techniques and programs, consistent with the Credit Union's organizational priorities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists branch and departmental managers in implementing sales tasks and roles for each member-contact position, and guides managers in establishing a sales management process that creates and supports a proactive selling environment. Provides coaching and mentoring to front-line managers to build their employee coaching skills via ongoing training, observations and follow-up.
  • Works closely with the Director of Branch Operations and branch managers to implement these service/sales strategies that will achieve sales objectives. Identifies appropriate motivational support and recognition vehicles. Develops tools, sales aids, and processes to facilitate the acquisition, retention and cross-selling to profitable member segments.
  • Consults with senior management in defining sales strategies and objectives. Works closely with front-line managers to implement these sales strategies and achieve sales objectives.  Develops and coordinates the execution of credit union-wide sales promotions and contests.
  • Plans, prepares and conducts appropriate service/sales training, product training and operating strategies to credit union employees.
  • Maintains sales and incentive tracking programs to monitor, measure, reward and reinforce performance.  Provides periodic progress reports to senior leadership. Serves as an expert resource on all service and sales related programs, processes, tools aids and systems.
  • Oversees and coordinates with the Training Coordinator all new employee orientation sessions and on-the-job training, including use of computers and software. Conducts initial service/sales training orientation for all newly hired staff.
  • Recommends and assists in formulating annual training programs and determines instructional methods, utilizing individual training, group instructions, demonstrations, workshops and computer based learning tools; selects or develops training aids such as handbooks, visual aids and tutorials.
  • On an ongoing basis meets with senior leadership, branch managers and department heads to assess training needs specific to each area and develops training opportunities to meet the needs of those departments and employees.
  • Tracks the progress of trainees through routine tests, observation and feedback from supervisors; evaluates the effectiveness of current training and recommends improvements to maintain a "learning environment" at the credit union.
  • Completes required reports, documents; attends meetings as required. Assists and helps prepare the training budget.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Expectations:

  • To provide within 10 days following month end a report of all service/sales tracking information to all senior leadership and a monthly report at the supervisory meeting of pertinent service/sales tracking performance information.
  • To maintain a basic understanding of Credit Union products, services, policies and procedures, as well an understanding of the Credit Union's mission.
  • To provide informed, professional and accurate service and support to all staff meeting and/or exceeding their expectations for educational training/development.
  • To achieve a 90% or better score from employee testing following completion of all formal employee training programs, and an 80% or better retention rating (re-test) 60 days following the training.
  • To meet all training objectives and goals established for the year within budget.
  • To develop recommendations for cost efficiencies and enhancements to products, pricing, and processes by monitoring trends in operations.
  • To maintain a cohesive, highly trained and motivated staff, sufficient to meet the needs of the Credit Union.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Two years to five years of similar or related experience.  Education needed is a college degree.  The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills to effectively communicate professionally in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to prepare complex training presentations.
  • Strong knowledge, or ability to acquire quickly, of financial products and services.
  • Exceptional project management skills and ability to juggle multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Professionalism in appearance, dress and attitude.

Computer Operator – Ames, Iowa

Role:

  • To operate in-house and ancillary computer systems.  Monitor and control data processing operations according to procedures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of current credit union computer operating procedures.  Perform routine, day-to-day computer operating functions.
  • Familiar with Data Processing vendor(s) documentation for modules/features used by Credit Union.  Inserts updates of DP vendor documentation. 
  • Run end of business day process & backs up critical data files and stores offsite for safekeeping.
  • Generates reports and/or downloads for and from DP system.
  • Distributes/inserts updates of DP vendor documentation.
  • General support for other technology or DP issues, i.e. audio response, ATM, online banking, etc. 
  • Assists in preparation of internal documentation, schedules and form development.
  • Verifies all reports were transferred to optical disk and delete hold files according to schedule.

Expectations:

  • To keep CIO informed regarding data processing service interruptions, keeping interruptions to a minimum.
  • To maintain all hardware in working order, insuring that all systems are functioning within established parameters.

Knowledge and Skills:

Full time Teller – Ames, Iowa

Role:

  • To assist members with their financial transactions, involving paying and receiving cash and other negotiable instruments.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives and processes member financial transactions, including deposits, withdrawals and loan payments; sells money orders and travelers checks to members; transfers amounts from member accounts as directed.  Post transactions to member accounts and maintain member records.
  • Welcomes members and provides routine information concerning services and directs members to appropriate department for specific information and service.  Cross sells credit union services.
  • Balances cash drawer and daily transactions.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous tasks including typing, filing, computer input.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Expectations:

  • To provide friendly, professional, personal service to all members.
  • To handle at least 150 transactions per day.
  • To have no more than one posting error per month.
  • Must be in compliance with policy 5.24 Over/Short.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Six months to two years of similar or related experience.  A high school education or GED.  Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.  Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.

Other Skills:

  • Ten key calculator and computer keyboard by touch.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Detail oriented and accurate to prove cash at end of day and avoid errors on member accounts.
  • Above average math skills.
  • Proven track record of strong member service skills. Diplomacy.
  • Professionalism in appearance, dress and attitude is a must.
